| 2008-05-15: The Lattice Project - Results in Progress Dropping? |
I've noticed our results in progress continues to drop despite a fair amount of work unsent. I have been unable to find an obvious reason on this end; has anyone running Windows been unable to pull down MARXAN jobs?

CASP8 is ramping up with a handful of targets released last week, and many more expected this week. The reason you haven't seen many CASP8 work units as we are making a final benchmarking of all the new structure prediction protocols we have developed over the past two years in the new miniRosetta code framework. The testing is on CASP7 targets--we want to determine which of our new methods are best before going all out on the CASP8 targets (yes, we would like to have completed the benchmarking before casp8 started, but there has been so much to do!). the testing should be complete monday and tuesday, and based on these results we will be sending out primarly casp8 work units next week using the approaches the tests currently running show are most successful.
I can't emphasize enough how critical all of your contributions are to our efforts to improve protein structure prediction methods! we have had many ideas on potential improvements which we have implemented, but the only way to know whether we are actually getting closer to the truth is to do rigorous testing (the casp7 targets for which we now know the structures are a perfect test set), and this would quite simply be impossible without your contributions! -- David Baker

Recompiled the work generator to work with the server OS upgrades, so the new WUs should work fine. I'm now looking getting the stats export to work again.

We had some downtime in the last 12 hours due to Apache suddenly not accepting any new connections. The first time was quickly solved but the second time was during the night and was solved in the morning resulting in 4,5 hours of downtime.
I'll be monitoring the server closely. At the moment I can't find a reason for the Apache problem so I can only hope it was a fluke and won't happen again.

New application version for TPS subproject has been released. If it behaves correctly, I will release it for other subprojects.

| 2008-05-10: RieselSieve - Temporarily Out of Sieve WU |
Due to a conflict in the wrapper, we are temporarily unable to process Sieve workunits above id #11222915. This means that currently, we are out of sieve work. A fix to the original problem has been found, but it causes further issues. It looks like, at this time, we are out of sieve workunits until mid-day Saturday at the earliest. | 2008-05-09: Cosmology@Home - Another update |
The project daemons seems to be mostly working at this point. There are still some problems with scheduling, though, and there are *far* too many WUs in the queue due to the population script not being able to get queries out in time, so we're going to wait a while to see if it settles. However, it looks like the database is doing *much* better and there are no hanging queries. I'll keep you posted on changes.

| 2008-05-09: PS3GRID - Detail of the first numerical experiment. |
The first set of numerical experiments run on ps3grid.net produced 5,000 trajectories, 4 microseconds of simulated time, over 200 years of CPU time with a daily output of 100 ns and few GBytes, two orders of magnitude closer to single-molecule pulling experiments. Thanks to all volunteers for this effort.
